Symposium in Kuala Lumpur
The "Transnational Symposium on Higher Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET): Curriculum Development and Standards", organised by the DCCD project, will take place on April, 20th to 21st, 2006 at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia(UKM), Bangi, Selangor, Malaysia.

Background

The Faculty of Education, National University of Malaysia (UKM) is one of the partners in the EU-Asia Link funded project named “Design of Curriculum on Curriculum Development” of Technical and Vocational Education and Training. The project started in October 2004 and now is on going until 2007. One of the activities of the project is to organize an international discussion on the development and implementation of TVET curriculum as well as other related issues pertaining to quality of teaching, learning and scholarship in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Malaysia has been identified as a hub for center of excellence in education in this region. With the recent development in Higher Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) spearheaded by UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for TVET (in Bonn, Germany), a Transnational Symposium on Curriculum Development and Standards on TVET is deemed timely for the Southeast Asian region. The aim of this one and a half day symposium is to gather TVET researchers, planners, policymakers, educators and practitioners from East and West to share and discuss the latest development on higher TVET Curriculum, Standards and professional development from international perspectives. We are also hoping that better understanding of other countries practices in TVET can be learned and shared. Thus, these Asian and other experiences may lead to global sustainable cooperation of TVET.

Objectives

  • To discuss the latest development on higher TVET curriculum and standards from international perspectives.
  • To develop international networking and cooperation in TVET teachers training
  • To assess TVET policies and practices in several countries
  • To share research findings in TVET research
  • To improve the quality of national TVET teachers training programmes.
