Start of the EU founded project WASABI

At the end of April, the kick-off meeting of the European Union-funded project White-label shop for digital intelligent assistance and human-AI collaboration in manufacturing (WASABI) took place in Bilbao, Spain. WASABI focuses on intelligent digital assistance solutions that help skilled workers to master challenges in the work process. The aim is to contribute to human-centred manufacturing through assistance systems. The scope of this support lies, for example, in the expansion of the workers' cognitive abilities through decision-support systems and in the acceleration of knowledge acquisition and transfer through natural language processing. Such skills-based support will show how regions, supply chains and individual companies can recover from sudden crises. Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques are essential to the perceived intelligence of digital assistance solutions. However, implementing them as trustworthy AI systems is a comparatively new requirement and as much a technical as an organisational and legal challenge. The project partners in the WASABI project are facing these challenges.

The focus of the ITB is to design learning on specific, typical activities of skilled work with the claim of a constructivist didactic concept. With a view to the training of semi-skilled and unskilled workers in the work process, such a concept should, for example, help to promote the development of technical language among non-native speakers. The development of literacy in the workforce is seen as a cornerstone of professional participation in work processes.
