BBF Namibia – Entwicklung der Berufsbildungsforschung in Namibia

Problem: Namibia is one of the countries with a very high inequality and a very high youth unemployment of more than 50%. The national development plan (NDP5) mentions the improvement of the vocational education structures as a main instrument in order to reduce inequality, to enable employment and in order to strengthen the regional economy. However, the knowledge regarding strengths and weaknesses as well as development needs of the vocational educational system is very low, because there is no established vocational educational research.

Objective: The project is aiming to build structures for the development of expertise in Namibia.

Research question: How can we save sustainably the knowledge development?

Development approach: The vocational education and training at Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) is to be strengthen through establishment of a vocational educational institute.

Results: Two study programmes have been developed, accredited and institutionalised. Parallelly research and development workshops took place for “Science Capacity Building in VET”. In 2019, the “Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training” has been founded and established on this basis.
