Learning potential and learning in high-tech work processes - changing manufacturing industry requires competent specialists

In highly technical work areas, employees are confronted with imponderables and complex problems that require both theoretical and practical knowledge. Younger and older skilled workers are often not sufficiently prepared for these new challenges. Therefore, companies signal an urgent need for action. The professionalism of skilled workers, master craftsmen and technicians must be improved in new ways in order to increase their professional opportunities and employability and ultimately to ensure the competitiveness and innovative spirit of companies.

The aim is to develop "media-supported work and learning projects" (Medi-ALP) from the company's core processes and to test them in typical, demographically sensitive operational situations. At the partner companies, this is tested by developing skills among an aging workforce and a younger workforce. New to this concept is the development of work-process-based didactics (including web meetings, film sequences in podcasts and collaborative learning) and the age-appropriate use of social media and mobile devices that promote learning by solving problems in authentic working processes at high-tech facilities.
