National Automotive College (NAC) in the Sultanate Oman – A Survey in the Automotive Sector

The target is to establish a sector‐related Automotive College in the Sultanate Oman. The main reasons for the proposal are the gap in quality and quantity of the public institutions in qualifying the young Omani generation for the sector. Colleges do not offer any automotive technology/automotive service and repair courses and Vocational Centers only deliver low quality and low numbers of graduates (less then 100 per year).

One of the first steps was to identify

• the demand of human resources on a high quality level for different areas of the automotive industry and

• defining the structure of the disciplines of an “National Automotive College”.

The results of the survey should be used for concept recommendations of future perspectives of human resources development as well as training structures for the automotive sector.

An important aspect of the applied quality-oriented method for the survey is the possibility of acquiring a structured understanding of the development in the industry in the course of the investigation, provided that the investigator has a good background in the field.

The work-process-oriented analysis, the understanding of development processes and the ability to transfer the results of the survey into the context of the development of the entire institute are the prerequisites for future recommendations, scenarios and more detailed planning.
