Curriculum Vitae
Pekka Kämäräinen is a Finnish educational researcher working at Institute Technology and Education (ITB), University of Bremen. During his early career years (1986–1994) he worked as one of the founding members of the Work Research Centre of the University of Tampere. At that time he specialised in comparative and international research on vocational education and training (VET).
In 1994 the Finnish government sent him as a national seconded expert to Cedefop (European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training), then located in Berlin. From 1995 to 2002 he worked as a project manager (temporary EU-official) at Cedefop in its new location Thessaloniki, Greece. In 2002 he returned to Finland and worked as a visiting researcher at the Vocational Teacher Education College (AOKK) of the Jyväskylä Polytechnic (JAMK). During this period he participated as a keynote speaker in the International UNESCO Meeting on TVET teacher education in 2004 in Hangzhou, China.
From 2005 on he has worked as a senior researcher at ITB. He has mainly participated in European and international projects on workplace learning, vocational teacher education, training the trainers as well as use of digital media and web resources in vocational learning. His most important research activities have been the EU-funded projects Work & Learning Partners, TTplus, Consultation seminars, Euronet-PBL, Learning Layers and TACCLE4-CPD.
He has participated regularly in European Conference on Educational Research from ECER 1992 on and was one of the co-founders of the VETNET network in 1996. During his years in Cedefop he organised symposia and workshops to promote knowledge sharing between European cooperation projects and networks in the field of VET. Later on he has continued to launch similar activities at ECER with focus on European cooperation projects. In 2016 he was recognised by the Council of the European Educational Research Association as an Honorary Member of the VETNET network.

ECER-Toolbox - Supporting hybrid presentations, hybrid posters and ePosters with the help of ECER-ToolboxLaufzeit 01. Juni 2018 bis 30. August 2018In dem 2017 abgeschlossenen Learning Layers Projekt (EU FP7) wurde ein Instrument, die Learning Toolbox (LTB), als digitaler Werkzeugkasten für arbeitsprozessbezogenes Lernen entwickelt. Dieses Tool wurde von den LTB-Entwicklern für die Präsentation von ePostern in Konferenzen weiterentwickelt. In 2017 wurde die Anwendung in zwei Europäischen Konferenzen (AMEE, ECTEL) erstmals erprobt.

TACCLE4 - Strategies, Models and Tools for Continuing Professional Development for Teachers in e-LearningLaufzeit 01. Oktober 2017 bis 30. September 2020Problemstellung: In den Vorgängerprojekten (Taccle 1, 2 und 3) wurden digitale Kompetenzen der Lehrkräfte in den Schulen gefördert. Taccle4 CPD wird Strategien und Modelle für permanente Weiterqualifizierung (CPD) entwickeln. Die Projektarbeit des ITB fokussiert sich auf Lehrkräfte im Berufsbildungsbereich. Zielsetzung: Einen Überblick über digitale Transformation im Arbeitsleben geben und Perspektiven der Digitalisierung in den beruflichen Lehr-/Lernprozessen entwickeln.

METALS – Machine Tool Alliance for SkillsLaufzeit 01. November 2015 bis 31. Oktober 2018Entwicklung innovativer Lerneinheiten zu neuen Technologien im Werkzeugmaschinenbau: In dem Projekt METALS wurde ein kooperativer, transnational-vergleichender Ansatz zur Entwicklung von Lerneinheiten verfolgt, deren Bearbeitung durch Auszubildende bzw. Facharbeiter*innen dazu beitragen sollte, die Lücke zwischen Qualifikation und zukünftigen Anforderungen an die Facharbeit zu schließen.

Learning Layers: Scaling up Technologies for Informal Learning in SMEsLaufzeit 01. November 2012 bis 31. Oktober 2016Das im Herbst 2012 angelaufene (Groß-)Vorhaben »Learning Layers« im 7. EU-Forschungsrahmenprogramm (ICT-Schwerpunkt) beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, wie Web 2.0 Tools gestaltet werden müssen, um das Lernen am Arbeitsplatz von Fachkräften und Auszubildenden im Bauhaupt- und -nebengewerbe gezielt zu verstärken.

Euronet PBLLaufzeit 01. Oktober 2008 bis 30. September 2010The project Euronet‐PBL developed international recommendations and instruments to enable to improve the quality of Practice‐Based Learning (PBL) in three areas of Higher Education (HE) study programmes (vocational teacher education, business administration and engineering).
