This year's EDEN Conference took place in Bologna from 15 to 17 June under the title ‘Shaping the Future of Education in the Age of AI – Empowering Inclusion, Innovation and Ethical Growth’. AI Pioneers was represented with several contributions. Dr Ludger Deitmer and Frieda Klaus travelled to the conference on behalf of Institute Technology and Education (ITB) and gave a presentation entitled ‘Artificial Intelligence in Vocational Education and Training: A Micro, Meso and Macro Perspective From the AI Pioneers Project’. During the presentation, the two gave an overview of the AI Pioneers project and classified the research carried out in the project according to the three levels of vocational education and training.

In addition to Dr Ludger Deitmer and Frieda Klaus, the University of the Basque Country (project partner in AI Pioneers; Spain) was also represented by Dr Alexia Antzaka, who presented the AI Pioneers project's evaluation schema for AI in education on data, data protection, ethics and EU values.

As a joint effort, an action lab on this evaluation schema was conducted with two other project partners. Under the title ‘Artificial Intelligence and Ethics in Education – An Evaluation Scheme Workshop’, Dr Giedré Tamoliuné (EDEN), Ana Dias (TecMinho), Dr Alexia Antzaka (University of the Basque Country) and Dr Ludger Deitmer and Frieda Klaus introduced the participants to the AI evaluation schema on the topic of ethics and offered the opportunity to work on and discuss three levels of the evaluation schema using case studies.

Overall, there were many interesting presentations, keynotes and action labs at the conference, which led to new contacts being made to expand the AI Pioneers network.
