ITB offers degree courses at Bachelor and Master levels. Please also read the section below on language skills.

Bachelor in Vocational Education (Berufliche Bildung Elektrotechnik-Informationstechnik/Metalltechnik-Fahrzeugtechnik)

The programme qualifies students for future occupations in practice and research in non-school career areas, as well as for continuing with postgraduate studies in the Master programme for teachers (Lehramt) at vocational schools. Students pursuing careers as teachers at state schools are taught knowledge and competencies in subjects taught at vocational schools, i.e. metals technology or electrical engineering/computer science, including subject specific didactics and a subsidiary subject, as well as studies in education/career training. In non-school areas, the programme prepares students especially for work at non-school establishments of vocational training. Students pursuing careers in non-school areas are taught knowledge and competencies in subjects taught at vocational schools, i.e. metals technology or electrical engineering/computer science, including subject-specific didactics and a subsidiary subject, as well as studies in education/career training.

Master of Education – Technical and Vocational Education Training Sciences (Lehramt an beruflichen Schulen)

The department qualifies for the teaching post at professional schools and for an occupation in the school occupational fields in practise and research. The master study is offered with the subjects to commercial-technical sciences electrical engineering informatics or metal technology GTW.

For the qualification for an activity aside the practical school area knowledge and skills in the field Metal Technology or Electrical Engineering Informatics and in a minor subject as well as in Educational Sciences /Vocational Educational Sciences are given.

For the qualification for an activity as a teacher at public schools knowledge and skills in the work pedagogic school field Metal Technology or Electrical Engineering Informatics including the professional didactics and in a minor subject as well as in Educational Sciences / Vocational Educational t Sciences. The study turns to engineers who aim an activity as a schoolteacher. A first bachelor or higher degree in Electrical Engineering or Metal Technology must be reached before.

Information for non-native German speaker

All lectures are held in German. Therefore appropriate German language skills are absolutely necessary for successful participation of the courses.

In case your university entrance certificate was not acquired at a German institution, you must show proof of your language proficiency. Currently, it can be done as follows:
1. Test German as a foreign language - TestDaF (§ 3) or
2. German language examination for access to higher education - DSH (§ 4) or
3. Part exam German" of the assessment test at the Studienkolleg (§ 5) or
4. Goethe Certificate C1 (§ 6)
each in accordance with the "Guidelines  of German language examinations for studies at German universities (RO-DT)." (Decision of the
Standing Conference of the State Ministers of Education and the Arts in the Federal Republic of Germany of 25.06.2004) in its current version.

Depending on the second subject some Master of Education courses may require additional  language certificates (e. g. English B1 or C1). For further information please refer to the German pages of our website.
