Starting point of ITB research is the relationship between work and technology. Here, not only the status quo serves as a basis for investigation, but also the design potential of technologies and processes in the working world, including associated educational processes. Technical innovations (e.g. Industry 4.0, Smart Technology) and changes in professional requirement profiles play a major role here, which must be taken into account in the constant development of initial training and further education. In this context, the continuous development of knowledge and skills as well as the further development in the sense of lifelong learning must be considered. Challenges such as the digitalization of all areas of life, changes in the environment and demographic change also have an impact on the world of work and occupation. In this way, more and more new types of human-machine interactions ahave to be designed. These changes of overall social relevance are incorporated into vocational training contexts in the research field of work and technology.
