The project "Karrieren@Stahl" (Careers@Steel) aims to address the evolving skills and competence requirements in the steel and foundry industries. Funded by the Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales (Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs), with financial support from the federal states of Bremen and Lower Saxony, this project facilitates industry dialogues to exchange insights on qualification solutions amid structural changes and to enhance employer attractiveness by providing clear career paths within the industry.

Key Components

The project develops new professional development paths, including the "Berufsspezialist" (Professional Specialist) level, the revamped "Bachelor Professional" level (Industrial Master Craftsman), and the newly introduced "Master Professional" level (e.g., Technical Process Manager). It initially targets major steel companies like ArcelorMittal Bremen and Georgsmarienhütte GmbH, along with mid-sized foundries such as Pleissner Guss GmbH and Harz Guss Zorge GmbH, to design training profiles tailored to the specific needs of the industry.

Collaborative Approach

Through multi-stage industry dialogues involving company directors, HR heads, workers' councils, and experts, the involved partners will develop and pilot innovative training modules and a comprehensive career model across the industry. This initiative is also aligned with further collaboration for curriculum development at selected universities.

Join us in shaping the future of the steel industry, where development and sustainability go hand in hand.

Karrieren@Stahl is coordinated by Institut für Forschung, Training und Projekte (iftp) im Berufsfortbildungswerk Gemeinnützige Bildungseinrichtung des DGB GmbH (bfw) in cooperation with Institut Technik und Bildung (ITB) of the University of Bremen (Prof. Gessler & Dr. Peters). Further partners in addition to those mentioned are:  IG Metall, Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl und bfw – Unternehmen für Bildung.
