South African-German workshop at the ITB

In cooperation with the Institute Technology and Education (ITB) at the University of Bremen, a South African-German workshop on the training and further education of teachers and lecturers in vocational schools and colleges took place from March 31 to April 4, 2025. In addition to the ITB, following side visits were included: Mercedes-Benz AG Training Center at the Bremen plant, Central Technical Education Centre Bremen (TBZ Mitte), the center of excellence of the Bremen Chamber of Crafts, the ITECH vocational school in Hamburg (BS 14), the vocational school for plant and construction engineering at Inselpark (BS 13), the Hamburg Institute for Vocational Education and Training (HIBB) and the Hamburg University of Cooperative Education (BHH).

The participants from South Africa and Germany were from the following institutions: South African Public Colleges Organization, Quality Council for Trades and Occupations, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Durban University of Technology, Tshwane University of Technology, University of Johannesburg, University of the Western Cape, Vaal University of Technology, The Centre for Researching Education and Labour, Wits University, Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority, Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority, Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority - LGSETA, Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services SETA, University of Erfurt and University of Stuttgart.

The workshop was held under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research on the German side and the Department of Higher Education and Training on the South African side, which was represented by two participants in the study visit. The event was initiated and organized by GOVET, the German Office for the Internationalization of Vocational Education and Training.
