Content: Studies on training in foreign branches of
German companies are available for various countries (including China, India
and the USA). In this study, we change the focus: starting from the parent
company in Germany, we first (a) look at the tasks and challenges of
international training management and then (b) examine the extent to which this
commitment abroad generates regional development impulses. The case in our
study is the family-owned company Festo, headquartered in Esslingen, Germany.
The case selection is based on the criteria of "internationalization"
as a necessary and "family business" as a (presumed) sufficient
condition for the existence of an international training commitment at the parent
company. With regard to the first research interest, we identify 13 functions
of international training management at Festo as well as two central challenges
(standardization and integration). With regard to the second research interest,
it becomes clear that the establishment of dual training abroad favors the
development of a regional "skill ecosystem". You can find the entire
