Final conference of the "Smart Learning in Logistics (SMALO)" project at the BLG Logistics Centre C3 Bremen, Germany

On 19 June 2024, the final conference of the project "SMALO - Smart Learning in Logistics" took place at the BLG Logistics Centre C3 Bremen, Germany. SMALO was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research over a period of three years.
Final conference of SMALO: Spotlight #3

A frequently lamented problem is the lack of transparency in the continuing education landscape and the market-organised "continuing education jungle". Matching those interested in continuing education with continuing education programmes is perceived as problematic. The SMALO project addressed this problem and pursued the goal of developing an AI-based continuing education platform in the sense of a digital learning ecosystem using the logistics sector as an example and thus to network addressees and actors in continuing vocational training more closely and to personalise, individualise and make learning more flexible by means of an AI-based application.

The conference was opened by Dr Reinhard Ahlers (BALance Technology Consulting GmbH), the project coordinator alongside the project partner wisoak. He introduced the project partners and the brains behind the project and gave an insight into the individual result targets.

The project results were presented in three spotlights. Spotlight #1, presented by Michael Huss (M.I.T), gave insights into how vocational training can be digitally supported by the SMALO app. Spotlight #2 on target group orientation - facilitating access to further training and supporting target group-appropriate learning - was presented by Svenja Steffens (ma-co) & Dr Franziska Kersten (wisoak). Spotlight #3 – presented by Dr Christine Siemer (ITB) – provided insights into the didactic design behind the SMALO app and showed how learning paths can support more customised further training.

The spotlights were followed by a lively panel discussion with representatives from politics and business. The panel discussion was moderated by Onno Reiners (M.I.T), who focussed on the topic of "requirements for the continuing education of the future".

Overall, the final conference was a complete success and showed how artificial intelligence can be used to support target group-specific and more customised professional development.
