BoGyO – Scientific project support for professional orientation in upper secondary school

Many high school graduates are spoiled for choice after graduating from high school. Hundreds of apprenticeships and thousands of courses are open to them. It may be difficult to make the right decision. School as a central location for the early career orientation of young people faces the challenge of actively helping to shape the individual professional orientation process of students.

The research project WPB-BOGy - Scientific Project Support for Professional Orientation in High School - focuses on a particular part of schools in the state of Bremen, namely on upper levels of high schools and secondary schools as well as professional schools. The project aims at systematically anchoring professional orientation in the respective schools with sustainable measures. It is also important to build up a regional network that brings partners from universities and business in Bremen and Bremerhaven together with the schools. Our main concern is to support teachers who carry out career-oriented measures in schools.

During the project, we will build on concepts and approaches of professional training that already exist at the high and secondary schools in the state of Bremen. In cooperation with teachers measures will further be networked. In addition, established standards will further be developed. New concepts will take into account current changes in the working world as well as the particularities of Bremen as a business location.

Furthermore, an itslearning course on professional orientation is being developed and tested, and an e-portfolio (futurebox) is being developed. They intend to help students to document their experiences and results and motivate them to profound reflexion and informed decisions.
