DASCHE – Development, Assessment and Validation of Social Competences in Higher Education

Problem: Besides research and teaching the so-called “Third Mission” is valid for universities, hence the interface design of university and society. Within the efforts for comparability of higher education, social competences turned out to a target dimension of the European Qualification Framework (EGR/EQF) as well as for the respective national qualification frameworks. Design of this learning field, respectively design of processes to reach this goal, is still pending, not clarified and in need of development. Objective: Project goal of DASCHE is to identify good practice in the context of the project and based upon it, the derivation of a common framework model for the implementation of social competence in higher education.

Research questions: To what extend and how is the development of social competences in universities (policies, lectures) being considered? Which possibilities and obstacles exist and which trends are already recognisable?

Research approach: Country-related case studies, based on document analyses as well as interviews with university actors and focus groups (double-stage peer as well as external reviewed reports) are forming the basis for the derivation of the common framework model.

Results: A transnational research report, scientific publications and policy recommendations have been produced. The results are being / have been presented to the public at two conferences (Bremen 2019 and Warsaw 2020).

The following video (in German) was produced as part of the project DASCHE, which has been produced by a student from the Master's programme in Education and Educational Sciences (extracurricular) of the University of Bremen in cooperation with a responsible staff member of the project. This video has been presented as an opener at the final conference in Warsaw (February 2020).
