FLAME – Modern and efficient fire service career training
FLAME stands for “Feuerwehr-Laufbahnausbildung modern und effizient“: Fire brigade career training – modern and powerful. In the FLAME project, the ITB is supporting the “Feuerwehrakademie Hamburg” (Hamburg Fire Service Academy) in modernising and expanding its civil service career training.
The professional fire services are expected to have an increasing need for personnel in the coming years. The reasons for this are, on the one hand, age-related vacancies and, on the other hand, additional requirements due to changing framework conditions such as the increase in rescue service operations in an ageing society or additional challenges in civil protection. Attractive training and career paths are therefore needed for firefighters, which guarantee a high standard of safety through their quality.
Training at the professional fire brigade traditionally takes place within the framework of "career training" regulated by civil service law. The prerequisite for entry into the intermediate service is a completed vocational training programme in a trade or other suitable profession. Alternatively, a bachelor's or master's degree is required for the higher or senior civil service.
In the federal state of Hamburg, fire and rescue service training as part of these career training programmes is provided by the “Feuerwehrakademie Hamburg”.
The aim of the FLAME project is to redesign career training at the “Feuerwehrakademie Hamburg” in competence-oriented and work process-oriented manner and to support it with suitable digital tools. The ITB is responsible for the scientific support of this modernisation and expansion.
