ProfDRV – Professional driving – more than just driving: Qualification requirements and vocational training for professional drivers in Europe

During the last decades the qualification requirements for professional drivers have fundamentally changed and increased. There is a current shortage of professional drivers due to the fact that they do not have the qualifications required by their employers.

As the qualifications of professional drivers are an important factor with regard to traffic safety and highly relevant for all EU Member States, the General Directorate Energy and Transport of the European Commission has issued Directive No. 2003/59/EC. This directive regulates the general initial and further qualification of professional drivers in Europe.

Within the framework of the project “ProfDRV”, ITB is above all responsible for the steering of the consultative process on educational standards and contributes experience in the field of didactics and competency measurement. ITB investigates which methods, assessment procedures and measures for quality assurance of the training for professional drivers are applied in the participating project countries and which standards should be formulated for the training of professional drivers.
