STRIDE – STRategIes for the Digital Education

Problem: The digitalisation concerns all areas of economy and society and therefore it concerns increasingly schools, too. There are existing still uncertainties how schools can realign themselves during the technological change regarding their offers and profiles. This concerns as well as the concrete design of lessons and as well the external presentation, (work) communication and organisational processes. Objectives of STRIDE were: 1. The development of an open access learning offer for systematic, institution-related development of digitalisation strategies for actors in school context and the validation of it, as well as 2. Creation of an online environment for the exchange of strategies and experiences in the context of digitalisation in schools.

Question: Leading questions in the project were, which requirements and needs do exist in the participating schools and how they can be addressed without restricting the uniqueness of the school-specific strategies.

Research approach: The research approach was based upon a theory-based, transnational, quantitative acquisition (status analyse) as well as followed then by a validation of the results, conducted by focus groups on a national level. The development of the prototype of the learning offer was conducted with involvement of the participatory schools. A subsequent pilot was evaluated and the concept was finally revised.

Results of the project were:

  1. a self-organised, conductible online seminar, consisting in total of ten modules (five modules in basics of IKT as well as five step by step for development of a digitalisation strategy by schools, provided as OER) as well as
  2. an online community for the exchange of strategies and experiences between schools. Both results are offered in six different languages and are available on the project website.
