wb-ibb – Wissenschaftliche Begleitung der Förderlinie "Internationalisierung der Berufsbildung"

Problem: Germany has an established VET system. Internationally, the "dual system" in particular is held in high esteem and serves as a model for national reform processes, as it supports the achievement of various goals (including low youth unemployment, high productivity, high social integration) in a special way. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research BMBF created the funding guideline "Internationalisation of Vocational Education and Training (IBB)", which aims to combine export marketing and the promotion of international VET cooperation. Objectives: The project wb-ibb intends to record the effects of the funding guideline. Another important target is to understand and explain the challenges and conditions for success of international VET cooperation. The overarching goal is to support the internationalisation of vocational education and training through peer learning processes, among other activities in the scope of network creation and external knowledge management.

Research questions: Which innovations, conditions and factors enable a sustainable strengthening of the internationalisation of the German VET sector? How can the conditions for success and challenges of international VET cooperation as well as reform developments of VET systems be systematically recorded and explained?

Research approach: wb-ibb accompanies a total of 24 projects. Target countries include i.e. Korea, Mexico, Iran, Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Russia, Spain, South Africa, Brazil and Greece. Project actors and other VET stakeholders in Germany and abroad are surveyed at different points in time (expert interviews; online survey).

Results: Results are regularly presented at scientific conferences, expert forums and status conferences of the BMBF as well as in publications.
