Waterbiotech – Biotechnology for Africa’s sustainable water supply

Africa is the world’s second driest continent faces mounting challenges in providing enough safe water for its growing population. Wastewater treatment technologies and reuse applied for the treatment of polluted water resources can play an important role in addressing this challenge. The project WATERBIOTECH is conceived to find adequate solution to the water scarcity in Africa.

To propose the adequate solution, several analyses concerning legal framework, used treatment technologies, socio‐ economic situation and cost‐benefit issue of the targeted nine African countries are made. Based on the analysis a strategy for large scale implementation of the proposed technology as well as guidelines for the wastewater treatment biotechnologies implementation process will be developed. Demonstration and dissemination of the proposed technology and methods on site provide a unique chance to get different stakeholders into the developing process participated.
